H&M cut ties with Chinese supplier over forced labour claims
H&M the Swedish fashion giant has confirmed it is severing ties with a Chinese supplier of its yarns over accusations of forced labour. The accusations are linked to the labour camps allegedly set up in Xinjiang province in China and hold native Uighurs in ‘re-education camps’. An Australian research institute in March 2020 naming more than 82 companies around the world as either direct or indirect beneficiaries of forced labour practices put on Uighurs. H&M released a statement saying it was halting transactions with a Chinese yarn producer that owns the factory where the Uighurs are allegedly being forced to work. The Queen is set to be removed as the head of state of Barbados by November 2021. Prime Minister of barbados Mia Mottley has announced the Caribbean island’s intention to become a republic. The BBC has failed to reach its 2020 target for Black, Asian and minority ethic (BAME) leaders, the broadcaster has announced. MGM Resorts International have announced they are to terminate the contracts of 18,000 staff from across America who were previously on furlough due to the Coronavirus. At the start of 2020 MGM employed 70,000 staff members in the U.S. alone.
