Queen to be removed as Head of State of Barbados
The Queen is set to be removed as the head of state of Barbados by November 2021. Prime Minister of barbados Mia Mottley has announced the Caribbean island’s intention to become a republic. She is quoted as saying it was time to ‘fully leave our colonial past behind’.  ‘Barbadians want a Barbadian Head of State. ‘This is the ultimate statement of confidence in who we are and what we are capable of achieving. ‘Hence, Barbados will take the next logical step toward full sovereignty and become a Republic by the time we celebrate our 55th Anniversary of Independence.’ The country gained its independence from Britain in 1966, though the Queen remains its constitutional monarch. This stems from a 1998 constitutional commission review in Barbados recommending a tran ...

Human Rights lawyer Ebru Timtik dies after hunger strike.
Human rights lawyer Ebru Timtik dies after 238 days of hunger strike. Timtuk was one of eighteen lawyers accused of being part of a terrorist organization, under Turkey’s anti-terrorism laws.  Following the convictions last year Milena Buyum, Amnesty International’s Senior Campaigner on Turkey, who observed the trial hearing, said: “Today’s convictions are a travesty of justice and demonstrate yet again the inability of courts crippled under political pressure to deliver a fair trial. “After more than a year in pre-trial detention for six of the lawyers, and three measly hearings marred by fair trial breaches, this politically motivated prosecution has reached it preposterous conclusion. House to vote on decriminalizing Marijuana
House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) has announced that lawmakers would be voting next month on a bill to decriminalize marijuana federally, leaving regulation up to the individual states. In a Friday email to lawmakers, Clyburn said the House would take up the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act, first introduced by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), which would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act.
